Versatile logistics concept by Jungheinrich

Successful warehouse consolidation for Stadler

Stadler, a manufacturer of rail vehicles, opted for an integrated solution from Jungheinrich to consolidate five external warehouses. Among other components, a semi-automated narrow-aisle solution helps the customer to maximise space and picking capacity.

Challenges

  • Consolidation of five external warehouses into a central warehouse close to production
  • Increased picking capacity directly from EPAL with optimum space utilisation
  • Handling a wide variety of items, from small parts to long loads and special load carriers
  • High level of picking work for production preparation with up to 16,000 parts per tram car
  • Complex fire protection requirements due to the high proportion of plastic packaging in the warehouse

Solutions

  • Narrow aisle with single-bay racking for EPAL transversely with 9,600 pallet storage locations and wide-aisle racking with 1,800 spaces
  • Cantilever system for large components with level sprinkling system, grids and heat reflectors
  • 2 EKX 516 narrow-aisle trucks and 2 EKS 412 medium/high-level order pickers
  • Jungheinrich warehouseNAVIGATION with interface to the customer's ERP system
  • Modas boxes as a communication bridge between customer hand-helds and the truck controller for the narrow-aisle trucks
  • Operator training courses for operating the narrow-aisle trucks, including abseiling training

Successes

  • Centralisation of complex order-picking logistics in a compact area of 10,000
  • Extremely high space utilisation thanks to the space-saving single-bay racking solution
  • Enhanced picking capacity with a daily total of up to 1,500 picks
  • Flexibility and excellent accessibility of Jungheinrich services to ensure system availability
  • Efficient complete solution from concept to implementation, including operator training and service
